Weston Shivers'
calling has always been horticulture.

It began at age 14 with an after school job at a local nursery and garden center in his hometown of Columbus, New Jersey. There he learned the basics of plant care along with what it took to run a day-to-day business.

After high school, Wes moved into the family business. His aunt and uncle owned and operated a cut flower farm in Chesterfield, New Jersey and Wes quickly took on a management role. Their main source of revenue was the green markets in New York City every Saturday morining. Each weekend, Wes would drive a truck full of cut flowers into the city, set up his market, and push to sell all of his product to the locals.

After a couple of years, Wes left the family business to pursue a formal education in horticulture. He applied to the Professional Gardener Training Program at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

This program, held on the grounds of the public gardens, is an intesive two-year program consisting of classes, work experience and management experience. Hundreds from around the world apply but only 16 spots are available every two years. Wes made the cut for the class of 2000.

After graduating in 2000, Wes moved to Naples, Florida after accepting a position on a family estate in the Port Royal neighborhood. For five years, he took care of every horticultural aspect of the family's muiltiple properties in town.

In January 2006 he decided to venture out on his own and start A.W. Horticare, providing detail gardening to homeowners who want their landscape to be a showcase of perfection. Wes is able to provide his customers with an exceptional level of service because of his extensive horticultural knowledge and his attention to detail. He will do not only what is right for you but what is right for the property and the plants that reside there.
